Substance Use Evaluations

In-Person in Houston TX and Online Statewide

If you’ve been told you need a substance use evaluation, whether by a judge, probation officer, attorney, or employer, you’re likely looking for someone who can guide you through the process quickly, thoroughly, and without judgment.

I provide professional, court-accepted substance use evaluations for adults in Texas, available in-person in Houston or virtually anywhere in the state. I know getting an evaluation is often a stressful requirement, and my job is to make it as straightforward as possible while ensuring your evaluation meets the exact standards the court or other requesting party expects.

A substance use evaluation (also called a drug and alcohol assessment) is a structured process designed to understand your relationship with alcohol, prescription medications, or other drugs. It’s not just about checking a box, it’s about gathering accurate, detailed information so the court, probation department, or your employer can make informed decisions about next steps.

Every evaluation I conduct is comprehensive and includes:

  • A clinical interview exploring your history, legal situation, and any patterns in substance use.

  • Standardized screening tools that are evidence-based and court-recognized.

  • A formal written report ready for submission to the court, probation, attorney, or employer.

Who Typically Seeks Out a Substance Use Assessment?

People seek out my evaluations for a variety of reasons, but the most common include:

  • DWI/DUI charges (Driving While Intoxicated or Driving Under the Influence)

  • Drug possession charges

  • Probation or parole requirements

  • Family court or CPS involvement

  • Employment or professional licensing issues

  • Driver’s license reinstatement after suspension

  • Self-referral for personal insight or to take proactive steps before a legal proceeding

Why My Evaluations Are Different

Many providers can technically complete a substance use evaluation, but not all know the Texas court system inside and out. Before opening my private practice, I was employed by Harris County and Fort Bend County conducting these same assessments every day.

That means I know exactly what probation officers, attorneys, and judges expect to see in a report. I understand how to structure findings so they meet legal requirements the first time, saving you from delays, costly mistakes, or the frustration of needing a second evaluation.

What I Include in Every Evaluation

When you work with me, your evaluation will include:

  1. Clinical Interview – We’ll talk about your personal history, legal situation, mental health, medical history, family background, and substance use patterns. I ask thoughtful, relevant questions to make sure your report is as accurate and complete as possible.

  2. Standardized Assessments – You’ll complete validated screening tools such as the AUDIT (Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test), the DAST (Drug Abuse Screening Test), or the SASSI (Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventories). These tools are widely recognized by Texas courts and help ensure consistency and fairness in the evaluation.

  3. Written Report – Once complete, you’ll receive a detailed, court-ready report that includes:

    • Summary of your interview

    • Results of standardized assessments

    • Diagnostic impressions (if applicable)

    • Recommendations for treatment, education, or no further action

    • Documentation that the evaluation was completed by a licensed professional (LCDC and LPC in the state of Texas)

  4. Clear Communication – With your consent, I can send the report directly to your attorney, probation officer, or other required contact so you don’t have to manage that part on your own.

Step 1: Scheduling
Contact me by text or email to schedule your evaluation. I’ll confirm whether you prefer an in-person session in my Houston Heights office or a virtual appointment via secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing.

Step 2: Your Appointment
Evaluations typically take 1.5 to 2 hours. This time is spent conducting a clinical interview and completing standardized assessments.

Step 3: Report Delivery
Most reports are completed within 2 to 5 business days. If you have a deadline sooner than that, I offer rush turnaround options for an additional fee.

How to Prepare for Your Evaluation

You don’t need to bring any complicated paperwork, but if you have court documents, arrest reports, drug test results, or letters from your attorney or probation officer, it’s helpful to have them available.

If you complete your evaluation online, plan to be in a quiet, private space for your appointment so we can talk openly.

In-Person or Virtual: Which Is Right for You?

  • In-Person in Houston, TX – Ideal if you prefer face-to-face interaction or if the court specifically requests it. My office is private, comfortable, and located in the Houston Heights area.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sounds like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest.
